We go to these shows for escapism, but then when we've got real sad things happen, it's like we know these women, like we, you know, we do we spend so much time with them that yeah, when when the horrible things in their lives happen, um it hurt hits hard. Um, and this week, big big week for me, I did uh have the pleasure of meeting the Countess Luann on the Windows. No way. Did you actually? Yes, so get this, you're gonna die. So I went up to Sydney for Marty Hoopla Festival. Yeah, because I knew she was there. Yeah, did not think that we would be, you know, in a a setting where we would be so close to her. In the inner sanctum. Exactly. It happened. She was just there at the bar at the top of the pavilion, beautiful view of Bontai Beach. And I was like, fuck it. Like, you know, a friend of ours was like, off you go, come on, come on, guys, like pushed us into them. Um, and ended up having a lovely chat, got a little snap with the counter. She was just down in her vape the whole time.

And we have to pay respect to our foremothers. Like, these are the people that raised us. These are the people we built reality television, it was built on people like her's back, and she deserves deference from all of us.

Um, before we get into the first week of what I'm calling the new era of Australian Survivor, um, how have you got any thoughts about 50 to share?

I first of all, the fact that it's not on nine now and I've got to buy Stan to watch it legally is.

Yeah, yeah, that's crazy. So if anyone's got any links they want to send me, because I'm a bit out of the uh illegal streaming. I would never condone that. I'd never condone it. Um, okay, my thoughts on American Survivor are thus it is shit, it has been shit for a while, and they are lucky that they have had some really bright stars that shone above the shitness. Yeah. Somebody lied to her several times and told her that she was hot and fire and she's nothing of the sort. It does not have the vernacular to keep up with Australian Survivor. Um, so I think that it has been crap for a really long time, and I think Jeff's hubris has tanked it so badly, and I'm hoping that this is a bit of a reset. I think the casting for Survivor 50 was absolutely atrocious. This is nothing new, but I saw a little kind of uh picture today that someone like put the heads of like how many times people have played, like four, three, two, and then one. And the one is like this, right?

That should have been it, should have been uh regular attorney season. Get maybe from that, then there would be a couple of people who'd become like absolute gods in the world. Need it to be gerrymanthy, like they whiffed it so hard, and I think that I've lost all hope that um it can ever kind of come back. So I'll watch it this season, obviously, because of my favourites for my Aubrey's, for my you know, yeah, Jennifer. I'm still gonna watch it.

Yeah, do you know what? I'm gonna be really happy with with that, but like I had to come back in for it. But literally, I cannot believe that I'm saying this. I didn't watch the last three seasons, and like when has that ever happened in my life? The only other time I hadn't watched Survivor was when I was playing Survivor, so yeah, it's changed.

All right, let's go back to Monday night. Um, episode one was called I Forgot Your Name. Uh starts with our dramatic intro. It's all about Redemption, of course. We know. GG says, The want to write your wrongs, the need to make your mark. And I was like, Oh, is that a mark? Um Easter egg.

I I thought that in like the opening was awesome. You can never reach the high watermark of the opening of um uh AUV World, Shawnee walking across the thing, like like so you know, you have to run way, yeah. You have to calibrate and know that it's not gonna be that. Yeah, um, but still, great that there's something about the way Australian Survivor does the opening, like the way they were rising out of the water. It's just it's camp, it's fun, it's over the top. Having filmed one of those for All-Stars, it was like I knew while we were doing it.

Did you have a gimmick? Did you jump out of a suitcase?

Yeah, so in All-Stars, they grouped us by like the type of player that we were. So we were like the snakes of the game. So it was myself, Harry, AK, and Zach, and we kind of rose out of the um the long grass like snakes and through the mist, and we kind of like fit like sifted through. Yeah, and they they didn't end up using one of the shots, but like what we spent a lot of time was trying to get. Do you mean like the in the second Jurassic Park where they're running and the Velociraptors are kind of like that, just you can see the grass folding down as they're coming from all angles. We did that, and it was like really cool. And the whole time I was just like, I remember now so freaking cool, man. Yeah, um, it's just so high, high drama. It it's like I I think what Australian Survivor does best is it doesn't take itself too seriously, and the only time that it does take itself seriously is in the high camp, high drama opening, and it's the perfect balance, the perfect counterbalance to then flip into like meeting the people, and they're just like great, funny, average Joes, like it's such an interesting dichotomy. That opening episode.

It's really good. I gotta say, I was at a little watch party with some of the Melbourne that I stuck into. Um actually I saw you, I was like, Is that text on that? Yeah, I know I get a lot of texts of people going, Were you on Survivor? And I was like, sure. Um you just forgot. But um truder, yeah, yeah. We were all very impressed. Slash, like the the reaction wasn't huge either way. It was just kind of like, oh yeah, this is another season of Survivor. Here we go.

But that's what it should be, right? That's what people are. I think that's that's what it should be. That's why Jeff is so cooked because he has flipped it completely in the direction of he is like one of the center points of the show. Like, I think what the GG crossover has or like take over has shown us is that like it's not about the host, it should always be about the players. And I'm not saying that because I'm a former player, it's just like that's what I love the show for. Yeah, and it's almost like you forget that there's a host until we get to the tribal council, and you're like, oh yeah, like there's there's a host who helps curate some of this stuff. Like, yeah, so it should always be driven by the contestants, and I think Dave, who is incredibly switched on socially, he just gets it.

I love the the line, the white line with him standing there, it was really great. But then I was like, is he doing like is he truck driving in his regular clothes? Like, shouldn't he have some sort of truck driver uniform? Anyway, yeah, yeah.

Look, I've played with Matt Rogers, never like on the same tribe, but like he's an in he's such he's such such an intense survivor player, which is what we want, right? As fans, we want people who commit to the bit, commit to the bit, and like I think that we've got another person here who really commits to the bit. I think it's in the family genes. So sign me up for some Don. The face that Brooke made when she got on his neck and it was all like sweaty.

Uh so then we meet our four returnees, Mark, Simon, Brooke, and Harry. Obviously, you've played with Harry. Do you know the rest of them?

So yes, I played with Brooke, both of my sisters. Yeah, so we were in Yeah, so we did season one together.

Yeah, she was at my wedding. We like we've been great friends for a decade now. Yeah, and then uh, and obviously I played with Harry in all sounds, like played, played with him. So that was awesome. Good friends with Simon and Mark as well. But um, those other two are the ones who I have the relationship with. So happy for all four of them. I think Brooke is like icon status, like I genuinely think she's in that top tier. Uh, I really, really do. She is someone who just naturally has an intuitive understanding of like how to maneuver a social situation. She's very much like Dave, like that. Um, and uh I will always bet on her being the winner. So in my first season, I remember like when we were doing when we were doing the kind of like you know, mat chat thing, I was like, she's gonna win. And then in All Stars, I was like, Brooke's gonna win.

I think that they've actually borrowed quite a few of the elements from All-Stars. So not only do we have uh host who played in All-Stars, but we started with the same twist, not the whole twist, but we won the first challenge and we had our whole camp built for us. Fire, it was awesome. It is strange though that they did it because it actually stifles gameplay quite a lot. Like you you don't you have no reason to run off into the bush when like the the when the thing is being built, so you do get this very early kumba.

Exactly. But uh, yeah, I like I like the concept because it's just it shows that dichotomy and you get that great story.

You know, it's an under-reported story that Harry is like a physical, he's a physic, he's a beast. Like, even in all stars, like he was a beast. Like, and he trains all the time. He's like a you can tell he was an amateur pro wrestler. Like, I know like you know, being friends with him, like just before you went out there, he was in the middle of like this like severe cut to try and like build his body up. He is yeah, a chunky monkey. And he sent me a um, someone sent me an Instagram that I'll like when did Dirty Harry become dirty daddy? And I was like, Yeah, he's uh he's always been there. We just didn't didn't you guys didn't notice.

I thought it was great. I thought the newbies were really good. The theme um is always a loose way to create story for the first few weeks. Um, and I think that uh it had legs. I think it has legs because I think later on it'll start to pay off when it's like someone fucks up from the beginning of the season and they try and get redemption later on in the season. So it'll become like a self-fulfilling prophecy. So I like that. I thought Dave was great, the returnees were like the right amount. I was incredibly skeptical when I first heard out there was only going to be four. I thought, why not do like just the fans' favourites thing and just gonna go all out with it?

But yeah, no, having just a few peppered in it also helps with the familiarity of us like with losing a host and getting a new one just to keep it kind of in the lore. Yeah, no, it's good. It's like a little bit camp, and when you know, when they're like, oh, and that's my redemption story and the ghost stories and stuff. That was kind of silly and fun.

He's gonna bring like silly goose energy and like love, love when like a big strong dude brings silly, silly goose energy. So I um he's good, yeah. So those are the people, they're the three that I've been watching. Yeah, what about you?
